May 24 (LTIT) –According to customs data, China's scrap metal imports in April increased by 40% from the previous month to 350,000 tons, the highest monthly import level since December 2018. Imports of scrap copper in April were 170,000 tons, up 70% from 100,000 tons in March, the second lowest since March 2014.

China's alumina imports in April doubled from 30,000 tons in March to 60,000 tons.

In April, China's alumina exports were 18,778 tons, a three-fold increase from March, but still down 3.6% year-on-year. This made China the third consecutive month a net importer of alumina.

According to industry sources, China's alumina imports are expected to increase further in May as Shanxi alumina refinery closes capacity.
