Sep 23 (LTIT) –According to the latest data revealed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), primary aluminium production in North America dipped by 2,000 tonnes or 0.60 per cent in August 2020, following a rise in the previous month. Output in August stood at 331,000 tonnes, while in July was 333,000 tonnes after rising by 3,000 tonnes or 1 per cent from 330,000 tonnes in June 2020.
Primary aluminium production in N. America plunges by 1% M-o-M in Aug’2020, but output in S. America grows by 4%
On a year-on-year calculation, North America’s primary aluminium production in August 2020 stood down by 10,000 tonnes or 3.12 per cent from 321,000 tonnes.
In total eight months of the year (January-August), primary aluminium production in North America totalled 2.66 million tonnes, up by 4.31 per cent from 2.55 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Primary aluminium production in South America, on the other hand, grew month-on-month in August 2020 by 3,000 tonnes or 3.85 per cent to stand at 81,000 tonnes. In July, the output in South America was 78,000 tonnes after growing by 5,000 tonnes or 6.85 per cent from 73,000 tonnes in June.
However, on a year-on-year calculation, primary aluminium production in South America stood down by 14,000 tonnes or 14.74 per cent from 95,000 tonnes.
The total production in eight months of the year in South America amounted to 655,000 tonnes, down by 5.77 per cent from 693,000 tonnes during corresponding period last year.
Combining North and South America, the total aluminium production in August 2020 was 412,000 tonnes, down by 4,000 tonnes or 1 per cent from 416,000 tonnes in August 2019. |
