World Crude Steel Output Spiked in April |

The world crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 169.5 million tonnes (Mt) in April this year, higher by 23.3% compared to the same month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 125.0 Mt in April this year. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 12.9 Mt. In third place was North America, which recorded an output of 9.7 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.3), CIS (9.0), Other Europe (4.2), Middle East (3.5) and South America (3.8).
All regions recorded year-on-year surge in crude steel output. The African region¡¯s production skyrocketed by almost 94%. The production by South American region was up by 70.9%. The EU-27 and North American regions recorded surge in output by 42.8% and 38.2% respectively. Other Europe too saw significant jump in output by 33.9%. The CIS region saw its output increase by 20.7% over the previous year. The Asia and Oceania region output was up by 19.2% year-on-year. Middle East production recorded 15.3% surge.
The topmost steel producing country was China, with an output of 97.9 Mt in April 2021. The other key producers were India (8.3 Mt) and Japan (7.8 Mt).
