August 14 (LTIT) –Some 87,680 mt of copper scrap across companies mostly from Guangdong, Tianjin and Shandong received the green light in the 11th batch of approvals for restricted metal scrap imports for 2019, according to the list released by the Solid Waste and Chemical Management Centre under the Ministry of Environmental Protection on August 14.

The latest three batches of import quotas allow a total of 452,600 mt of copper scrap to enter China, which equates to 363,900 mt in Cu content, with a grade of 80.42%, SMM calculations showed.

This is expected to keep the market well-supplied. SMM data showed that China’s imports of copper scrap grew close to 110,000 mt in Cu content in the first half of 2019.
